Research interests: Adaptation, Heritagization, innovation, marine heritage, resilience, traditional and emergent crafts.
Biography: Monicah joined CRESIDA in 2019, and is undertaking a PhD in Social Anthropology funded by the University as part of the Global Challenges Research Fund/Arts and Humanities Research Council project (Rising from the Depths). She will be exploring how crafts production has evolved/ changed over time in relation to marine heritage in Lamu Island. She is under the supervision of Garry Marvin and Jonathan Skinner. Her research interests focus on heritagization, cultural tourism, cultural creative economies, local community rights, exclusion and marginalization and the links between marine heritage and sustainable development.
