Horizon Report – Presentation

For today’s lecture, we used a form of video conferencing rather than a normal face-to-face lecture. The reason for this was to show the benefits that these could have in a classroom and how you could easily share content and ideas with others on an online environment.

While I saw the benefits of using video conferencing such as the use of the hand raising tool allowing for everyone to have their say without talking over others, and having the opportunity to learn and communicate in an environment that you feel most comfortable in. however the technical issues were also apparent, some students were unable to join the conference due to wifi connections and i personally experienced some issues with connecting and would miss parts of peoples presentations. These could hinder learning in young children and could be more frustrating that learning in a simple classroom.

For this lecture we also had to prepare a presentation to present, these were linked into the group conference and everyone had access and could see the main discussion points. This was an effective way of allowing people to follow, ask questions and keep up with the learning that was taking place.

My presentation focused on one aspect within the horizon report… Coding a literacy, to put this simply the main aims of this was to get children to use technology in a way that benefits them and moves away with simple computational thinking and manipulating technology in more advance ways that can benefit themselves and others in society. i have attached the presentation for further information.

  1. Maybe a simple version of video conferring could be used between two classes in the school at the same time. This could be set up on the intranet and not the web for instance, might make the software easier and simpler to use?
