Diary of Learning activity

Reflection on pharmacology is the scientific study of how drugs and chemicals interact with or affect the body. We have pharmacokinetics, which is what the body does to the drugs, and pharmacodynamics, which is what the drugs do to the body.

Reflecting on how the body processes the drugs is in four stages: 1. Absorption 2. Distribution 3. Metabolism, and 4. Excretion. Learnt about different routes of absorption are oral, inhalation, nasal, otic, tropical/transdermal, rectal/vaginal, parenteral, and ocular. I was made to understand that there are three different routes. Enteral is through the gastrointestinal tract, which is the oral, buccal, or rectal route. Parenteral refers to IV, IM or subcutaneous administration, and Topical is the application of medication to the site. Also, the way the body processes medication is in different. The therapeutic level is when the drugs is effective; the toxic level is when the concentration is at toxicity; the therapeutic index is the difference between the therapeutic level and the toxic level, and the plasma half-life is the time it takes for the concentration or amount of drugs in plasma to reduce by half. Knowing and understanding this is necessary to know the effect of drugs on the body and others.

Also, we did how to reflect to understand our writing skills and what is expected in the writing.
