I took part in a cannulation and venepuncture simulation at my university on May 28, 2024. I performed the process on a mannequin while being watched over, making use of the appropriate tools, safety precautions, and training.
Initially, I felt nervous due to the technical nature of the procedure and the presence of my supervisor. However, as the session progressed, I felt more confident and focused on the task at hand.
It was a very effective training. By using the mannequin, I was able to get a hands-on, regulated experience and become familiar with the procedure. Providing immediate comments and corrections, the supervisor’s instruction was really beneficial.
The significance of utilising the proper equipment and adhering to safety procedures was brought home by this practice session. Building confidence prior to executing the treatment on real patients is essential, and the mannequin offered a genuine experience.
I was able to improve my practical abilities from the session. But I understood that in order to become proficient, additional practice was required. The supervisor’s comments made it easier to pinpoint areas that needed work.
To further enhance my skills, I plan to attend additional simulation sessions and seek more opportunities for supervised practice. Reviewing the procedural steps and safety measures regularly will also help reinforce my learning.
