Title of Learning:  Cardiovascular and the Function of Blood

As a nursing associate student, my lesson this morning about the cardiovascular and the function of blood was very informative. we learned how the heart works to pump blood around the body and how important this is for keeping us alive and healthy. the cardiovascular system includes the heart, blood vessels, and the blood itself, which all work together to supply oxygen and nutrients to our cells.

we also discussed the different function of blood, blood not only carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body but also removes waste products like carbon dioxide. it also plays a key role in protecting the body against infections and helps in healing wound by clotting.

this lesson helped me understand how essential the cardiovascular system is to overall health, and now we have a clearer idea of how it all connects. this knowledge will be very important as we continue our training and start applying it in real life situations to care for patients effectively.

Title of Learning Activity – Reflection on post Handover and Patient blood Monitoring

As a nursing associate student, after the morning handover i shift into patient care smoothly. the handover provided crucial updates about the patients, allowing me to prioritize tasks. one of my key responsibilities was to perform blood monitoring and assess the vital signs of a patient.

me and my colleague approached the patients with confidence, explained the procedure to them and ensured they were comfortable. i accurately recorded their blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and oxygen saturation, ensuring that all measurements were within the normal range. i documented the findings in patient’s chart and informed the result to the nurse in charge.

this experience highlighted the importance of clear communication during hand over, as well as attention to detail in performing clinical duties.  it also helped me strengthen my skills in managing patient care  and integrating my theoretical knowledge into practical tasks as a nursing associate student.

Title of learning: Respiratory and Circulatory System

In our lesson, we learnt about the respiratory and circulatory systems — how they work together to deliver oxygen to the body and remove carbon dioxide. We explored how the lungs exchange gases and how the heart pumps oxygenated blood around the body. It was eye-opening to see how dependent these two systems are on each other. Even a small issue in one can quickly affect the other.

This really made me reflect on what I’ve seen in practice — patients struggling to breathe, those with chest infections, or people with low oxygen saturation. I now understand the “why” behind the symptoms. For example, when a patient is short of breath, it’s not just discomfort — their cells might not be getting the oxygen they need. It’s also helped me see how important it is to monitor things like respiration rate, oxygen levels, and heart rate. Before, I would record these without much thought. Now, I realise they’re vital signs for a reason — they give us clues about how the body is coping internally.

I’ll pay more attention to how these systems are functioning in every patient I care for. If someone’s breathing changes, or their pulse becomes irregular, I won’t brush it off — I’ll think critically and escalate concerns if needed. I also want to keep learning more about how conditions like COPD or heart failure affect these systems, so I can give better, safer care. This lesson reminded me that every breath and every heartbeat matters — and it’s part of my job to protect both.

Title of learning Log: Human Cell Structure, Homeostasis Temperature regulation, 5 essentials for survival.

In a recent lesson, we explored the human cell structure, how homeostasis keeps our body stable, and how temperature regulation works. We also covered the five essentials for survival: water, oxygen, nutrients, normal body temperature, and pressure. It was a lot of science, but it all tied together in a way that made me see how amazing — and fragile — the human body really is.

This made me think differently about the patients I care for. When someone’s dehydrated, struggling to breathe, or has a high temperature, it’s not just “a symptom” — it’s a sign that their basic survival needs are under threat. I used to take these things for granted, but now I see how each small imbalance can impact the whole body, starting from the cells. As a nursing associate, it’s my job to help maintain that balance — whether that’s by offering fluids, checking observations, or just acting quickly when something feels off.

I want to be more alert and proactive in recognising early signs that homeostasis is being disrupted — like changes in skin colour, confusion, or temperature shifts. I’ll keep reminding myself that even small interventions, like repositioning a patient or encouraging oral fluids, can make a big difference. This lesson has reminded me that behind every observation we take, there’s a person whose body is working hard to survive — and it’s my job to support that process with knowledge, care, and compassion.

Title of Learning Activity: SWOT Analysis and SMART Objectives

In our lesson this afternoon we covered Swot analysis and Smart objective, both of which are useful tools to understand more effectively my professional development.

SWOT analysis help me because it made me look at my strengths, my ability to work well with my patients, weaknesses, and threats. it also opened my eyes to opportunities to grow like potential challenges and threats such as heavy workload affecting my studies.

Strength – what advantage i  have

Weaknesses – what areas i can improve

Opportunities – factors that can me grow

Threats – things that could negatively impact me

I also learned about the importance of SMART stand for Specific, measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time bound. this method makes my goals easier to measure and achieve. the Smart analysis taught me how to improve my skills  like improve my time management by properly adjusting my daily schedule and adapt study habits by revising over the work i have done.

Specific –  focus on study schedule

Measurable – follow the schedule each week

Achievable – make a schedule and follow it for a month

Relevant – time management is important

Time bound – set clear deadline for one month to see progress

both tools are important for my progress in my Nursing Associate career.
