Visit 8 (27th February 2018)

In the morning, I helped the practitioners arrange the tables and chairs for children who are going to do some painting, drawing or any other work. children came with their parents to do some activities feel interested in. I sat next to child to painting on the board to understand the kind of objects she was want to be drawing with the use of her imagination.  I sat next to F and asked her a question by saying what do you want to paint, she replied by saying I’m painting a robot  she holds the paint brush with her hands by saying that looks messy.  the skills I have gained in working with children, include the following: team work, enthusiasm, tolerance and others. when I had to tell children off by saying you can’t go outside it’s cold, then they came back to the room. I tidied up the tables and chairs for children to have their meal. after I tidied up the table for children to eat, I serve fruits for children so that they do not starve. I saw parents feeding their children by saying ‘its nice, do you want to try.

Therefore, children have finished eating their meal, the children were dancing to the music which made feel happy and excited in how they move their body helped them become more talented. what I found the most challenging part of my placement was that children started causing disruptions with other children working with their parents.

Visit 7

In this morning session,  we did Stay, Play and Learn for parents welcomed to allow play with different activities, I planned on sitting next to drawing or painting any objects with support and encouragement for the children to share his or her ideas. however, I noticed that the child was painting on the board pasted with paper drawing a Christmas tree with the use of imaginations, when I was out of the room. when I was in the room watching what children are doing working with parents, I heard the child crying because she hurt herself while her mother was looking after her to understand if she feels better. I held the child with care while the child smiling back at me to make her feel excited how she was. I tidied up the room by 11:00am with chairs and tables arranged for children to have their meal. Whilst parents, practitioners and I were serving fruits for children to eat, the children sat quietly by themselves, allowing parents to feed them to see if it tastes good.  after  children have finished eating their meal, they were sing some rhymes songs which made feel so happy and excited with the practitioners singing nursery rhymes.

Another session I did was understanding children’s behaviour. parents attended meetings with the practitioners for discussing about their behaviour. I was in the room playing with child using sand tray, making experiments and others. when I was working with the child, I was told that children are not expected to touch any tap until they gave been told.  in addition to what the practitioner told the children not to touch the tap, they repeated the same thing happening in their behaviour.

Visit 6

In this morning session we did Stay, Play and Learn for parents to allow children who are interested in the kind of activities they feel comfortable with. In the classroom, I saw the child sitting on the floor holding the toy with his hands while his mother was staying next to him sitting on the ground. I found out that children were outside using tools such as sand tray (both in and out of the classroom). The children were causing disruptions while other children are still working on other activities. When the practitioners started informing me about what I want to do in inspecting the environment for staff members to investigate what is happening in the children’s centre. I tidied up the classroom around 11.00am for children and I arranged the tables and chairs for them to have their meal. I served  children fruit to eat while putting it in their plate; although, I asked parents if they want more fruit, they replied saying ‘yes’. When the children have finished eating their meal, they sang rhyming songs with both parents and practitioners which made them feel happy or excited.

What made me feel interested in children’s centre was that children performed very well in the skills or activities made by parents or practitioners. Parents try their best in encouraging the child with love and support in order to have a bright future.

Visit 5

In this morning session we did speech language for children who do not understand English Language. I was looking at the child was doing at the Children’s Centre. Children were at the home corner doing some equipment while I watching children doing some certain activities with their parents. What I was about to do in looking after children was to recognise what they are doing in their spare time with parents.

another session I did in another location was Sensory Play and Exploration. I was at the room where mothers and babies were in the room breastfeeding their child for not allowing people to see what are doing between them. I was in the room sitting on the couch where there are balls for babies to play with. I started having a conversation with the practitioners about something that was very important by interacting with each other through communication skills.  The baby used his imagination to understand his opinions in how bright stars and the moon looks like.  However, I also respected the child’s interest in looking at what the baby does in using his creative thinking.

Visit 4

In this morning session in children’s centre we did Stay, Play and Learn. the parents registered in allowing their take part in any activities, they interested or comfortable with. The roles and responsibilities, given by practitioners or anyone working in the children’s setting are for families to certainly get involved in their child’s learning with the support of giving them the right tools in encouraging them to read books or play with any other equipment.

The child grabbed the blocks or animals from the other child when others were causing disruptions with their behaviour while I was advising them by saying ‘don’t fight’. Suddenly, I felt so shocked that the children were pushing each other while they were play toys in another room. After I finished working with children, I tidied up the table for children to have their meal such fruits and water, when parents were feeding fruits with their children to eat. When children were having their meal, they ate quietly while other children and parents were asking for more food. after the children finished eating up their meal, I took the plates and cups from them for washing. I watched the practitioners, giving children rhymes in singing which made me feel impressed on how parents were with children.Whilst the children had gone home with their parents, I arranged the table and kept all the toys  in the right place to prevent them from damp.   Another session we this afternoon at the Children’s was children’s healthy eating for parents and children to talk about  parents and children came into the class to learn how to make Christmas gingerbread. Parents helped their child how to bake with support by not making any mistake when they grow up in future. when the children have finished baking, the ate some of the gingerbread to see if tastes good or not by perceived the smell in side the kitchen. on that day, I was supposed to tell the children off that they are not allowed to touch the tap which was being told by the practitioner.

Visit 3 (1st November 2017)

In this session, we did stay, play and learn which was by 9:30am, we did morning registration for parents to understand if the children feel interested to part in all the activities. I went outside the room and saw the child on the sand tray, using shovel to make some experiments by pouring sand while other children were causing disruptions in the children’s centre. in my placement where I am still working with children, I found out that children push boundaries beyond their imagination when working in groups in creating friendship. I tidied up the placement around 11:00am when children were ready to have their lunch and I put toys and animals in the right place so that I do not get complains from members of staff. in addition, i also went back into the room to serve children fruits to eat in their plates when parents are about to feed them. I saw the child moving his plates as i was controlling saying ‘here is your meal’ as the child disrupts the class when other children were having their meal. When children have finished eating their meal, I collected some plates from practitioners and parents to go to the kitchen to wash the plates and allow it to dry so that we do not get complains from staffs who are working here. whilst I started staying in the room watching children singing rhymes with parents, I respected the child’s dignity when I carried them with care. after, i finished tidying up the room, i went straight into the kitchen to wash the plates for their practical work, when i noticed that the practitioners went out to have their lunch.

Another session I did in the afternoon was children’s healthy eating, I helped the children to cut the pieces of fruits to eat so that they do not have any injuries that can lead to the risk of injury with health and safety. in my placement, i helped children cut all the fruits with knife in the bowl or plate. when looking at what the child does in cutting fruits, i collected the knife from their hand so that he does not cut himself. also, i tasted the fruit which was very healthy and nutritious for children to eat to provide vitamins and minerals that will make them have strong bone (calcium).

what made me feel at the end of the day was that I felt happy that the child ate the fruit salad when i was talking to them by saying ‘Do you like it? when the child replied back by saying ‘yes’. Therefore when working with children, we need the respect the child’s opinions when working in a placement. Children tasted the fruit salad to see if it tastes good which made me feel impressed for them to learn how they could build up some muscles and strong bones.

Visit 2 (24th November 2017)

In this session we did stay, play and learn,  I helped the practitioners arranged the tables with a blank paper pasted on the table with pencils, crayons, paints and brushes to allow children to draw so that children work on the table. In addition on how I came in during my first time, I also welcomed the parents to sign the register to attend for this sessions. The practitioners allowed children to play in the home corner, do some drawing such as mark making which is essential for them to notice how parents may feel concerned about how they are doing in working with their peers, forming as friendship. I worked with children staying at the home corner while I was busy looking at what other children doing different activities with the support of their parents outside as well. While standing alone inside the room, I was asked to tidy up the room by allowing children to have their meals which was fruits and water. When children have finished eating their lunch, I took part with the practitioners in singing rhymes with them, while they feel so happy and excited in the room. however, I also tidied up the room and went to the kitchen and washed all the plates by allowing it to dry, so I do not get any complains from members of staff.

I went out to buy lunch and came back to the room to eat while other practitioners went to have their lunch as well. After I finished eating my lunch, I went to the kitchen to bring some food items for children to cook or bake.

Visit 1 (17th November)

I worked in a children’s centre where children who are aged birth to 5 years to choose the type of activity they prefer with their interests. When I first started my placement, I felt welcomed that the practitioners were here to allow me start my placement. When the practitioners told me to inform parents and children to register, if children are interested in any activities from inside and outside the room they want. in children’s centre, I got prepared in following the rules, for example, policy and procedures, confidentiality, staff training, legislations and others.
I organised the tables or any other equipment for children to draw and paint on a plain paper pasted on the table. however, I also help the practitioners to keep the equipment outside in the right place so that staffs will not have complains about what is going on around in the room. In the class, parents were with their children, doing certain activities such as Legos, toys, wooden blocks and other equipment. As I was looking after children, I tried to control them by talking to them politely with respect and dignity. I held the child in children’s centre not to go near sharp objects so that they do not get hurt. When the child decided do some drawing and painting, I thought that they will
In the morning, I tidied up the room when children were about to start having their lunch with parents on the table. immediately when children have had their lunch, the children sang some rhymes with their parents with love and care because they felt happy and excited in show their expressions. when children had gone home with their parents, I tidied up the room, in order to make it look neat and tidy. in addition, I went out to have my lunch outside to eat when the practitioners were on their way to the room.

After I finished eating my lunch, I helped the practitioners to get cooking equipment for children to allow the help and support them in cooking. When I sat next to the child, I helped her to bake bread with the support of learning skills. although, I found out that the food was burning, when I ran to the kitchen with consent of the practitioners. The practitioners brought the food for children to taste because they perceived the odour to understand what the food looks like. When children had finished their meal, they stood up from their seat and started playing together as friends, for example, friendship.
