day 8 31/1/18

Today was the last day of placement with the children and I had decided to make them all goody bags full of items that I knew each of them liked. It had only met most of them 8 times but I was satisfied that I knew the children by now. At the end of the day my manager said she would like to employ me for the future and I will now be working there on set days. This is good for my future experience and I believe it’ll allow me to grow my knowledge.

day 7 24/1/18

Today the children had all done some maths activities this was only the children about the age of 4 the younger children had watched ceebeies for a little break. A very young baby needed to eat his dinner at it was 6pm I had fed him his broccoli and had decided to hand him some and see it we would feed himself. He played with the broccoli but I thought this was very good for him because it allowed him to explore what he was eating and therefore probably made mealtime more fun for him in the future this is another upside of sensory play,

day 6 17/1/18

Today with all the children I had made them some cupcakes and I did this with the ide in my mind that some were allergies so I bought cakes that were suitable for everyone. This was as a part of my sensory skills and play. I had also then allowed the children to decorate the cakes with icing this allowed me to see how the children had used them and see what they decorated them. This was another part of sensory play. It allowed me to see how the children would squeeze the tubes and let the icing out.

day 5 10/1/18

Today the children and I decided to play outdoors as the weather was a bit better this was also helpful to me as I could see the other sensory play that was involved outside. I observed some children who were climbing trees and I spoke to the manager about the risk factor involved. This allowed me to understand further about how the setting worked and what I was able to do there. The children also played in the sandpit after which some needed a change of clothes.

day 4 3/1/18

Today I sat down with the children and spoke to them about what they did over the new year’s. This was helpful as it allowed me to interact more with the children and see their different personalities. Majority of the children weren’t in today as they had gone on holiday or were ill. I sat down and read stories to the younger children and saw if they were interested. After this I had given snacks to them all and had put some down for bed. The practitioners I worked alongside were all very supportive however there was a particular practitioner who didn’t like the fact that there was a volunteer working. I spoke to the manager and got that insure resolved and was happy that I did.

day 3 27/12/18

As the year was coming to an end, today I sat down with the children and did a quiz with them about what they had learnt this year. This allowed them to express themselves and show the other children what they had done. I had also asked them what their favourite part of the year was. After this majority of the children wanted snacks and were given apples. I had brought in another activity today which included fake snow and glitter. This was helpful for my focus for my presentation and helped me see the children interact and get involved in the sensory play.

Day 2 20/12/18

Today when I came into work I had brought some materials to do activities with the children I had decided to make felt Christmas tress with them and I had asked them all to decorate it as they liked this allowed me to see how the different children expressed themselves and also let me see If they were able to cut and stick pieces on their own.

After the activity I had given all the children food and sat down with a little boy who was aged 2 and we sang nursery rhymes together after this we had sat down with a puzzle board that had lots of different fruits and vegetables on it. This allowed me to see what he had learnt and the manager liked the idea

Day 1 13/12/17

Today was my first day at placement and I had decided to bring in some presents for the children. I was asked to sit with the babies and this allowed me to get to know them.

I had later given them children their food and served pasta to them this was helpful as it allowed me to find out about their allergies and see which child preferred what. The children then all decided to sit by me and there was around 8 of them. They all spoke to me and were very interested about where I had come from. I spoke to them and found out more about each of the children and learnt about what their hobbies were.
