Firstly, we went to Whitelands College but unfortunately we were unable to hear from the resident Rev. Daniel Ishun about the history of the religious institute based on the college. I was stuck by the fact that on Whitelands the previous church nave had been turned into a computer suite – does this potentially show how religion has slowly become less and less prominent in the lives of both Roehampton students and the general public? However, while we were there we were able to go and have a brief look at the outside of Parkstead which helped to solidify all I’d learnt the week prior.

Secondly, we visited the Chapel based on Digby Stuart College where Rev. Ginny Jordan-Arthur gave us an incredibly detailed brake down of the history of the college and the foundations of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart. Personally, I found it interesting that the nuns who originally begun the educational institute of Roehampton are still present on Campus and only relocated a little over two years ago. And potentially might want to explore deeper into the history behind the Sacred Heart – possibly with the help of Ginny.

Finally, we ended in Southlands Methodist church where Rev. Nicola Morrison briefly informed us about students from the past and then proceeded to compare them to some present day students. It was sticking to see that there were only a few differences if we were to minus things such as fashion and technology. I think it is important that we learn about the history of the institute we are studying in.
