This lecture was one that I felt I could relate with, from myself being female and also due to attending an all-girls secondary school. I found it slightly amusing to read some of the male views through history about women and education, especially regarding educated women who were deemed as a threat, prior to the lecture. I was also intrigued to think about what my male peers might have to say on such a topic. Especially considering the more modern and media coverage feminist movements have in our generation, sort of snowball effect from the feminist movement. I am not sure that this is a topic that really struck a chord with me to look deeper into purely because previous topics are been more appealing to me. During class time we examined a selection of excerpts from articles and books written in the 1800’s penned by both men and women. The difference between the sexes was rather extraordinary and it was very evident the gender divides in this period of history. In reflection, I won’t discount women in education as a potential project subject but I am leaning more towards the history behind Digby-Stuart College Chapel.
