Richmond Theater: 84 Charing Cross Road
84 Charing Cross Road was well-prepared play that took me by surprise. I was interested to see how they would choose to show the letter exchanges between New York City and London and I believe they did very well. The story line was interesting because it was based on a true story. This is not a typical story you hear about and it is hard to believe that you can have such a friendship without ever meeting the other person. I noticed myself rooting for the character to finally make her trip to London to meet everyone she has been writing to for the past twenty years. I really enjoyed how they incorporated music into the play. The music added to the story as well as keep the audience entertained. I believe the story would have more meaning if the audience was familiar with the books the main characters kept referencing to. The only negative I noticed, was the length. At the end I kept feeling like it was dragging on. There were a few exchanges that could have been left out seeing as though they were not a huge part of the overall story. If it would have been a little shorter, I think the ending would have been more emotional. It was still a very intriguing play and I am glad I had the chance to see it.
