Connecting Worlds: DT and Computing

Final Thoughts on Connecting Worlds Project

From going through the different stages of this Connecting Worlds project, I as a teacher have developed a lot in the way of my skills and subject knowledge of the area. I feel that my subject knowledge of DT has developed a lot within the couple of weeks of this module. I now understand why DT should be taught in school and how it can be beneficial for children in their knowledge as well as their personal developments. I have come to understand how certain tools work within a DT workshop, which before this module I had not experienced despite studying DT in my first year and as my foundation subject in third year.

The subject of computing I feel I have not experienced enough within the module as the topic chosen for my year group had very weak links to the subject. Despite this, I have had the chance to experiment with crumble boards which I have never heard of before. I feel this was a very highly important experience within the module as it does show the link between the two subjects and it can make computing a subject have a creative purpose to it which sometimes this subject is not seen as. From experiencing the use of crumble boards, I feel that when I am in the classroom I would use the equipment with children and get them to create a product which it can be incorporated into. This is therefore demonstrating how the computing equipment does have the link with DT, despite me not experiencing the strong link myself within my project created in the year group.
