When going into school, I personally felt very unprepared after only having one session in university based on the project and I felt this came across within the input for myself in the first class. This may also have been down to one member of the group completing the powerpoint for the input of the children and not briefing myself and the other member of the group what we needed to complete within the lesson. However, I felt this was a learning curve for myself as I need to ensure there are meetings prior to schools visits to ensure that every member of the group has full knowledge of what is needed of them during the lesson.
The lessons that were completed within the school did seem to engage the children very well and got them excited for the project as it was evident in the work produced. However, the backgrounds produced by the children did not reflect fully what we asked them to complete. Many of the groups in both classes, designed the whole scene rather than just the background which was needed. To ensure to improve this for future practice, we could produce an example of what is needed from the children and model on how to complete the work but due to time constraints it was very difficult to do this, this time round. By allowing children to experience different materials they could use helped with the designs produced as many of the ideas developed once they had felt or looked at a variety of materials.
From our pre-visit to the school, our group made the reflections that we need to ensure our time management is kept tight with this project when next in school as we did not have time for the children to design their characters within this visit. This has therefore meant that some time must be taken out our next visit for the children to design their character as well as make it with materials. We therefore need to plan our time crucially for the next activity within the class.
