Hello! Welcome to my blog about active citizenship and inequalities in political engagement

These blogs are assessment components of a third year undergraduate sociology module at the University of Roehampton. But, why are these blogs important?

Mainly because, for decades, countless researchers have identified how factors such as age, social class, gender and ethnicity influence the extent to which people are active citizens engaged in politics and democracy. Why should I care, you ask? You do not have too of course.

But I think you should care as we are living in momentous times. Over the past few years, we have witnessed major upheavals in the political sphere from Brexit and Trump to the recent rise of Boris Johnson. All of which will affect your life in some way which makes it imperative we engage with the political process.

Therefore, by using these blogs as a platform to voice my thoughts, I attempt to critically reflect on the political engagement of different social groups and raise awareness about these issues.

Indeed, change is needed and we can only really make a difference by addressing the current situation.

Happy reading!
