My thoughts on ICT and IWB’s

Hello everyone!

For my very first post on this blog you have the pleasure of reading my thoughts on ICT as a subject and the use of interactive white boards (IWB’s) in lessons – if you’re bored already all I can say is it doesn’t get much better from here on out, but I’d greatly appreciate it if you’d stick on.

As a subject, ICT during my school years was never a favourite of mine, which is strange considering I don’t think I’d survive without tech in real life. I think I felt this way because I remember learning about a lot of things, such as creating games, that I never used in my own personal life so I always questioned the purpose of learning it. With that said, I find some new aspects of the curriculum fascinating, such as the introduction of coding! I think it is a great topic to introduce because it is so relevant to the times we live in.

I remember first coming across an IWB in Year 6. It was a great step on from the blackboards we had in Year 2. I would honestly say that they definitely helped to enhance my learning, especially if were playing games to learn certain topics such as in Maths. My personal favourite thing about them was the chance to calibrate them, which is quite sad really but it’s the small things. They are a multi-dynamic tool that can really help to convey a concept in a much better way to pupils – whether it’s through a YouTube video, a game, or a PowerPoint presentation. I look forward to using them in such ways in my lessons and hope that they are as helpful to my pupils as they were to me.

And thus concludes my ramblings! Please feel free to comment and share your thoughts on ICT as subject, whether you are reflecting on your experiences from your childhood or not, your contributions are welcome.
