The Victoria and Albert museum was a truly amazing experience. The whole museum had such a great mix of cultures and different medias. From looking at art, architecture, and fashion, I learned a lot about the different cultures that live together in the UK.
The two exhibits that grabbed my attention the most were the middle eastern culture exhibit and the fashion displays.
It was very interesting to me to see the middle eastern displays because there is so much history surrounding that culture and it was very helpful to see artificats old and new to help better understand their religion and the general culture. My favorite pieces in this exhibit were the rug and the fireplace. The fact that the designer of the rug went through great lengths to create the rug, but purposefully made it imperfect because they believed that God was the only being that could reach true perfection really showed how much they value relgion.
The fashion exhibit also gave me a lot of insight into how british culture has adapted through the years. I think the most intresting part of the fashion was seeing the similarities between the fashion in America and the UK throughout the decades. It seemed like the fashion was similar by decade in a general sense, but had many subtle differences in the clothing. It made me realize that certain trends in a culture reflect in everything, even the clothing. It also makes you think about society on more of a global scale since there were so many cultural similarities between the two countries and a lot of the culture started to blend as we entered modern day.
Overall, the V&A museum was definetly one of the more educational spots I have visited so far in London and I am very glad to have had the experience there.
