Week 9: March 23rd

Classes, rehearsals, and any campus meet-ups have been cancelled due to the coronavirus. I’m unsure if we’ll ever rehearse again; for right now, everything is online and the production has been transferred to either a technical standpoint or a one-person, solo performance. My group has decided to stay separate, possibly due to the lack of contact between the development of the virus and the school strikes. This leaves me in my own space, to create something personal and intimate by using only what we discussed and Ibsen’s text. This feels like a complete backwards jump – so much of the analysation and work we put toward the play relied on the character’s relationships and how they interacted, especially when thinking of the past mishaps and then-current societal groundings. The identity of the production came from the physicality of acting in numbers with the people who determined each other’s fate, past, and scars. Translating that to an independent production will be interesting.
