Hoirzon Report and Video Confrencing

For this session we took a look at the future, taking a look at some of the amazing technology that could be bursting onto the education scene in the coming years and to do this we used one of the biggest innovations in recent years, video conferencing. So we all dialled into the video conference with minimal complications and went over some features and protocols of video conferencing including shared whiteboards and hand raising. From the get-go, it was evident that there are some huge benefits to video conferencing such as it enabled us all to link together in a socially constructive learning environment from the comfort of our own homes.

The main focus of the session was on the Horizon report which looks into what areas of technology are developing and how we can apply those to education. The report included innovations such as virtual reality, robotics and Makerspaces.  Each member of the group was allocated a technology and prepared a short presentation on what it is, its uses and it’s potential in education. My presentation was on Online Learning, which is the eponymous idea of learning online. It can be argued that practically everything we do is Online learning; this blog, Twitter, Moodle, Minecraft; literally any experience where something was learnt online. The below video, taken from my presentation, will give you a full overview of Online Learning

Overall, this was a great session; the use of video conferencing coupled with the look into the future made for an engaging session.
