Cyber warfare

Mazanec (2015) states that cyberwarfare is the use of technology such as a computer or a digital device to cripple another nation’s important computer systems. It is argued that cyber warfare may be as harmful as everyone believes it to be. This is because there have been no cases of deaths due to cyber warfare but has caused little damage to the countries that have been affected. Although there have been no countries yet that have declared official cyber warfare, there has been an increasing number of cyber weapons and operations being developed in cyberspace by countries such as Israel, the USA, the United Kingdom, China, and many more. Between the years 2006 and 2013 there had been over 150 cyberwarfare operations. However, it is argued that these statistics are not real cyber warfare operations but just cybercrime in general. However, there have been seven computer network attacks since 1982 which is thought to be only the practice of cyberwarfare. For example, in 2007 Israel launched a cyberwarfare operation targeting a military defense system which effect was supposed to degrade an air defense system. The attack name was called the Syrian air defense system. Additionally, one thing in common with all the seven-computer network attacks is that they were aimed at civilians or military targets. This is significant because it implies that countries may be competing to evolve their military attack and defenses to another level by using cyber warfare techniques. No recorded deaths have been recorded from cyberwarfare yet. Even though there have been no major incidents of cyberwarfare, countries are still taking extra precautions which could indicate more moral panic or norm evolution. Theories will be talked about more in-depth in the other sections. Countries such as America have taken extreme measures in preventing and defending against cyber-attacks. United states governments and leaders of national security in 2010 planned for cyber-attacks for targets such as water systems, power grid failure, hospitals, transport systems, financial systems, and many more (Oakley, 2019). Overall, this paragraph how gone through the historical overview and definition of cyber warfare and how it has evolved. Although, there have been no deaths due to cyberwarfare, there has been evidence of countries practicing cyber warfare tactics.
