Recently I’ve not found the motivation or the time to go to a few one hour yoga sessions every week, so I have found that waking up as early as I can and doing a quick yoga routine on my amazon yoga mat is sufficient enough for me. When I am feeling a little lost and unsure on what exercises to do YouTube is my go to, it’s very helpful for numerous of things and you can find countless of youtubers sharing their yoga experiences. One person I often look to for inspiration is Yoga with Adriene, her five minute morning yoga video I find very helpful and sets me up for the day.
Finding motivation
Since moving to university in London I have learned a lot of things, mostly learning how to live alone and what foods to buy.
But also how to try budgeting my money and on how to keep up with university work, and working in general to live.
However I do struggle with motivation, and keeping myself motivated just like any other person sometimes would, I’m in my last few months of university and now is a time when I need motivation the most.
I find that even just 30 minutes of exercise a day or every other day helps my mindset and instantly makes me feel better which is the most important.
Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body
Since I started my yoga journey, I went on the lookout for some recommended books to assist me and help me when it come to learning about mindfulness and new yoga stretches.
I usually read a fair share of books however I noticed I didn’t have many wellbeing books, so I decided to order some off of amazon and had a look in WHSmith’s and I was pleased with what I found.
Although the books are not that big in size I feel like the quality of the content inside them is really important, they’re also easy to carry with you anywhere to have a quick read.
10 minute daily stretching routine
Every morning when I wake up I like to do a simple stretching routine. it is effective because it helps to wake myself up in the morning and get my body ready for the day. I find videos like these on YouTube from a youtuber called Tom Merrick, all of his videos are very helpful and this particular one is great if you don’t have much time.
- Head rolls in each direction (holding for a few seconds each time repeat x2)
- Downward facing dog
- Upward dog
- Childs pose
- Right leg lunge (go as deep as you can to feel the stretch)
- Left leg lunge
- 90 degrees glute stretch on both legs
Upcoming events
Being a student means that you cannot afford many things however you make it work.
In order for me to start my journey I had to find a few classes to attend, whether that be at the university or at my local gym, luckily I have found an opportunity to do both.
At my gym I attend visual yoga classes for free within my gym membership, which can be fun but also not as good or motivating as having a real instructor.
This week on Thursday the 7th a health and wellbeing class is on at Frobel in the University of Roehampton campus from 1 o’clock till 2 all students can attend.
Changing Daily Habits
As it is January which is usually a time for new beginnings, starting a new diet, and trying something new. I often suffer with a sweet tooth and cannot go a day without.
However, I have found recipes that substitute bad salts and sugar for good healthy amounts of natural sugar. From fruits, yoghurts and more, because eating healthy and taking care of yourself is mainly about balance. And eating certain foods can make you feel a lot more fuller and unable to do any yoga workouts effectively.
Breakfast recipe:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2/3 cup rolled oats
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons honey and cinnamon
- Few blueberries
- Non fat Greek yogurt to serve
About Me
My name is Jessica’Rose Janes and I am currently a full time student at the University Of Roehampton.
I’ve decided to create this blog based on my beginning with yoga and what will be my journey doing it weekly, and how I plan on keeping up with it throughout the next few months. I personally think it is a good form of exercise to include into your everyday life, it’s easy to take up a new challenge although difficult to embed it into your everyday routine. Each week, there will be different topics related to yoga, nutrition, the mind, body and soul.
