What was the nature of the CPD activity?

Is to raise awareness by attending courses, training, seminars, or conferences on the topic Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Know about the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of ASD, as well as communication techniques, behavioural interventions, and support for people with ASD and families.

What did you learn from the CPD activity?

I have learnt a about ASD aetiology, diagnostic standards, and prevalent comorbidities, through CPD activities on the illness. I learnt about research-supported interventions that help raise the quality of life for people with ASD, like behavioural therapies and medication.

Additionally, social skills instruction and communication techniques that can assist people with ASD better navigate social settings and enhance their connections with others. Respect individual needs and to make sure you work to individual needs, not to their diagnosis.

. Avoid background noise.

. Slow down and make time for the person to because they may struggle with processing time and knowing when to.

How did you change or improve your practice as a result?

activities

. By strengthening their communication abilities and gaining a deeper comprehension of the particular requirements and difficulties faced by people with ASD.

. Find out what triggers them, what they like and what they don’t like. Include them in decision making and seek advice from their families and carers when necessary.

How is this relevant to the Code?

It emphasises how crucial it is given to patients compassionate, patient-cantered care and respect.

The need of providing fair and including those with ASD, makes ASD relevant to the code of ethics for nurses. Nurses are expected to understand the special requirement and difficulties that people with ASD confront and to offer care that is appropriate for their particular needs.

What was the nature of the CPD activity?

As a student nurse, I think that offering patients holistic treatment requires continuing professional development (CPD) in music therapy. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code places a strong emphasis on giving patient care that is person-cantered and comprehensive. Patients’ physical, emotional, and social needs can be met through the use of music therapy, a non-invasive, non-pharmacological intervention. Through continuing education in music therapy, nurses can improve their ability to use music as a therapeutic tool and to put into practise evidence-based outcomes. Additionally, CPD in music therapy can assist nurses in honing their interpersonal and communication skills, which are crucial for establishing rapport and trust with patient. CPD in music therapy can generally improve the slandered of care.

What did you learn from the CPD activity?

I learnt that through music therapy it help to enable their potential and to live a better quality of life. Music brings memories of feelings, it brings togetherness, bonding, makes people happy.

Physically, music therapy helps us to relax and bond as a group.

Emotionally, music therapy reduces stress, it helps your mental state of mind, it brings inclusion, connectivity and diversity. individual can express there feelings through music. A feedback from a patient says “I look forward to my time away from my boring home” which means she enjoys the music therapy it makes her happy. Music brings healing to the soul, music is fun!

How did you change or improve your practice as a result?

I can offer details about how music therapy might enhance nursing practise. It has been demonstrated that, music therapy improves patient outcomes by lowering anxiety and pain, encouraging relaxation, elevating mood, and fostering dialogue. As a student nurse, I may identify suitable interventions and raise the standard of care by thinking about how music therapy is used in patient care. Knowing the advantages of music therapy can also aid nurses in advocating for its inclusion in patient-cantered care plans.

How is this relevant to the Code?

The NMC places a strong emphasis on the value of person-cantered care, communication, and empathy in nursing practise. As it can facilitate communication between the patient and the nurse and aid to foster a therapeutic environment, music therapy can be a useful tool for fostering these skills. Planning and implementing music therapy interventions might benefit from having a basic understanding of music theory concepts like rhythm, melody, and harmony. The ability of each nurse to incorporate music therapy into a person-centred care strategy ultimately determines how well it works in nursing practise.
