Learning Activity 1: Introduction to Developing Professional and Academic Skills for Nursing Associate Module
In today’s class we looked at our module Developing Professional and Academic Skills for Nursing Associate. I learned about the module outline which covers topics such as The NMC Code, compassion in the practice strategy (6c’s), key legal and ethical principles, delivering person-centred care, effective communication, managing relationship and cultural awareness.
The delivery of the class was straightforward and clear. We looked at the criteria of the essay assignment and what expected in the contents and how it should be delivered. There was plenty of good tips and module materials given which was very helpful for me. We also looked at the deadlines where I was given some advice on how to manage workload and how to balance everyday life. We looked at our learning outcomes in which gave us an idea what the essay will cover.
The planning, organising and comprehending the assignment has made me more relax as I was feeling a little bit anxious with the assignment. We discussed about looking at some examples of reflective essay writing in the next few class sessions which I think is every helpful for me when Im going to write my essay reason being is that I need to refresh and remember on essay writing again.
Learning Activity 2: Care for Carers and Well-being
In this learning activity we discussed about factors that could affect burnouts. We watched a video which is about practicing emotional first aid which given us some advice about mental health and strategies on how to cope. There are elements that we looked at that may affect our limits such as depression, loneliness, emotional pain, emotional bleeding, rejection, rumination and battle negative feeling. We also learned some strategies with dealing with psychological factors that may occur such as try not to overthink, reach out and ask for help, the importance of social interaction and protecting our self-esteem.
Information about mental health and getting reminded the importance of looking after my mental health was essential part during my studies here in the University. People focus more on physical health rather than their psychological health, this statement is true and balancing physical and mental health should be maintained.
We had a brief overview of the NMC Code which was about maintaining level of health both mental and physical health. We also looked at barriers of well-being and other factors that we could do to improve our personal health. We also discussed about resources available here in Roehampton University. We found about who our well-being officer is, where to seek advice, support and guidance and contact details were given. It was also good to know that the university offers mental health first aid.
