Reminder: Asynchronous learning = learning which can take place outside of any time constraints.
Synchronous = real-time learning. Skype / Facetime / video link / conference calls.
The, Otero, Petch and Catapan, paper clearly defines what high – level cognitive skills are. They are the thought process of how we all view the world around us. To have these high-level cognitive skills means that a person is able to be; analytical, critical and reflective. Skills which will aid a person to problem solve, question what they are told in order to make informed decisions.
The authors research enlightened the idea that technology can be a catalyst for learners to become more autonomous learners who have the ability to expand their high-level thinking processes. This of course depending on whether the technology, which they are choosing to use, is in working order. A downside for any piece of media.
The reflective skills which were discussed in the paper provided a gentle to nudge to awaken my understanding about why we are blogging on our e-learning course. I have found myself being reflective, recalling of the lesson with explanations about what i have learned from the days process, but I have most definitely become more critical. In order to create an activity which the over 55’s can identify with I have scrutinised programs which we have been presented with.
The research for my activity presented the facts that many over 55’s have a fear of technology. I have found myself about how simplified I should be, when considering which programs I could use for my activity. I do not wish to come across as condescending. I also believe that out of a group of people aged over 55 there may be one person who is intrigued by technology and would be happy to experience a more complex program.
The development of my activity requires to invite all types of learner to participate. I now need to put in place a tool which will enable the learner on to further learning. A guide of some kind. A guide which will help those who wish to know more about the smartphone development, technology and various activities one can achieve with such technology.
Critical thinking video! What is meant by critical thinking?
