Week 2
Horror Story:
Introduction:
The purpose of this task was to create the outline and create a Horror Story with a connection to your own inner monsters and with it’s own narrative and plot.
Social Media Ghost (SMG)/ Social Media Killer:
We follow a group of university students are using social media to collaborate on a university project are chatting randomly to each other.
One of the students gets a friend suggestion/request from their social media for a friend of a friend etc. (They are busy so just click past the notification). Later the notification comes up again, once again the student ignores it. After a night drinking the student gets the notification again this time they accidentally accept the suggestion/request.
A week later weird things start happening to the student, think poltergeist. The student does not notice at first but one night it becomes particularly obvious. The student gets a threatening message/ping on their open laptop from the SMG. The student is a bit disbelieving at the message, the door locks, the blinds fall, the lights flicker, the student is forced onto their computer chair by an invisible force, the chair is pulled in front of the laptop, a scream.
The Student is found face smashed into their laptop dead.
The next day another student in the group gets a message from the SMG.
The second student experiences a similar fate.
Eventually after a couple more deaths some of the left over members of the group begins to realise their is a pattern, they begin to investigate.
Conclusion:
This brief outline details what my horror story would be. I identified my dislike of social media as a potential setting or medium through which I could tell a horror story and used it here. I was obviously partially influenced by the current pandemic specifically the new and developing sub-genre of horror films based around online meetings and the internet in general.
