Week 4

Characters:

Intro:

The goal here is to create a character that is influenced by a piece of my own (A poem) and develop him a bit and create two other characters that compliment/contradict him in some way.

Note: Each of the none main characters influences the profile of the main.

(Future note, a paragraph on the significance of the objects for each is needed)

1: Arthur (Main)

Influence: The Poem

Description: Melancholy, aging. Repeating ???

Wants and desires: Warmth, shelter, purpose? He is mentally tired.

Objects of significance: Long black coat, black leather gloves.

Purpose: ???

2: Jack (Foil)

Influence: The Poem

Description: Energetic, young, adventurous.

Wants and desires: To explore, experience new things.

Objects of significance: A worn and old watch.

Purpose: To highlight Arthur’s character by having opposing characteristics. He is a friend of Arthurs they get along well but Arthur is a bit older and more mature and thus sometimes gets a bit tired of his boundless energy. Arthur wishes he would slow down a bit.

3: Alice (Catalyst)

Influence: The Poem

Description: Orphan child in street. Nowhere to go.

Wants and desires: Cold, Hungry, tired, sad, wet.

Objects of significance: Beaded bracelet, old blanket.

Purpose: To show Arthur he isn’t the worst off. To give him something to sympathise with. Maybe to give him purpose.

Story implications: These characters would work well in an alternate Victorian London setting or maybe just an alternate London.

Arthur is sitting outside a café as it starts raining, he is a bit down. Jack joins, tries to cheer him up but only ends up irritating him or making him even more tired.  Arthur sees Alice.

Note: Is Arthur a good person? Does he help or hinder Alice? Is he interested in her story maybe?

Conclusion:

Overall I believe that I have been successful in creating the three characters influenced by my own work. I am glad that the poem character portrait was a successful experiment since it lead to this and I look forward to the stories I can tell with these characters.
