In the morning we had group presentations in class, My group presented on Greenwich borough and we researched on the area, age demographic , ethnicity and education.

In the afternoon we looked at the case studies for our essay assignment and also to have more insight into how we can choose and complete the essay.

Topic:Assessing children / Health promotion of babies, children and young people.

Today we learnt about current health concerns of children , we discussed about the 3 p’s of public health which are Health protection, health promotion and ill health prevention.

we went further to discuss about child obesity , the state of child health reports and the key priorities which may reduce health inequalities.

I also learnt about adverse childhood experience and how to tackle risky behaviour in children.

moving forward I now know in dept of how to assess children in a clinical setting in my role as a Nurse associate.

Topic:Epidemiology Reflection on most recent clinical placement

In the morning section we all discussed about our experiences in the recent completed placement .

what we learnt and achieved from the placement as well as the negative parts . It was a missed reaction from all individuals. We also were glad we achieved our goals and got signed off by our individual Assessors.

 

In the afternoon section we learnt about Epidemiology and its main problems , how common it is , the measures taken to deal with the problems , when it occurs as well as the results achieved and who it affects.

We went further to discuss about the statistics monitored which includes Mortality ,mobility, life expectations at birth, adjusted life expectancy and casual factions like smoking.

We also discussed about the social determination of health which are the Economic and Social factors that have a profound effect on health, health inequalities , avoidable and unfair differences in health status .

Later in the day we had a practical section to learn about and see different types of oxygen mask and how much Oxygen that can be given through it and the various Patient it can be used on.

Title: Comprehensive Patient assessment / Clinical judgement and clinical decision making

In the morning section we learnt about factors influencing activities of living , this involves Biology, psychological, social , cultural, environmental , political as well as economical factors  .

We went further to also discuss the activities of living , like maintaining safe environments , eating and drinking well, personal hygiene, mobility, controlling body temperature .

In the afternoon section

We were divide  into 3 groups to assess a Patient whom was admitted into hospital with UTI we  assessed and  came up with a care plan for the PT by marking clinical judgement and shared decision making.

Title: Injection Technique

Today we learnt about injection technique and the route its given .

We were divided  into groups in the simulation room and explained to how to give intramuscular injection in the upper arm.

Title: Urine management  ,Catheter care, Fluid balance and Urinalysis

Today we discussed about urinary incontinence which is the inability to hold urinein the bladder due to loss of voluntary control over the urinary sphincters resulting in the involuntary passage of urine. .

we went further to discuss the types on incontinence  which is Stress ui – involuntary leakage on effect on exerbation

Urge ui: involuntary leakage of urine following a sudden uncontrollable urge to avoid and lastly the Mixed ui which is the involuntary leakage of urine associated with urgency and also exertion, coughing , sneezing.

Moving forward I have  learnt that pelvic floor exercise  can help train the bladder to be more healthy

Title ; Principles of pharmacology

 

Pharmacology is the science that examines the composition , effect and the use of drugs.

In this section we learnt about understanding of medication and the motive achieved in given the medication.

We discussed about how antibiotics work to stop bacteria multiplying and this takes about 2 to 3 days to feel better after taking the antibiotics because that is when the bacteria dies.

We also understand that antibiotics is best taken at the correct time for it to help work betterto treat the bacteria.

WE learnt about Kinetics which is the movement of the drug and Dynamic which is the volume..we also discussed about how the body process the drug which is broken down into 4 stages which is

A -absorption  D – distribution   M – metabolism  E – excretion

all medication goes through the liver which have action on the medication absorbed before it goes through the stomach and also to the rectum.

The liver takes about 30% of any medication absorbed through the mouth.

lastly we discuss about the different route in which medication is taken  we have Enteral, Parental and Topical.

 

Going forward i have learnt the importance of taking Antibiotics at set times to help it work well to fight the bacteria , also I now know how the body process drugs administered.
