Title :Introduction to the module Developing professional values and behaviour Introduction to the  NMC Code the 6 Cs

In today’s lessons we talked about professional values of Nursing Associates and our job role and the code of conduct as laid down by the NMC to be adhered to by Nurses , Midwives and Nursing Associates. We spoke about the importance of courage speaking up and transparency in our line of duty, report any near miss during in line of duty as a Nursing Associate.

We went on to discuss about the British values as describes my the NMC , and the importance of good communication skills in our job role as a Nursing Associate.

We also learn about  personal organisational skills and the ability to identify and plan which will help us meet our learning requirements as described by the NMC code of conduct.

We also talked  again bout the NMC 6Cs which is Care, Compassion, Competence , Communication , Commitment and Courage ,  demonstrating  the 6Cs is  very importance to help us as Nursing Associate to achieve our oal in our job role as a Nursing Associate .

Moving forward I will implement the NMC 6Cs in my job role as a Nursing Assistant , be reflective in my role and learn to be open about mistakes and to deliver good standard of care to all persons in my job role , to demonstrate the British values and be reflective .

AFTERNOON SESSION

In the afternoon section we discussed about Reflective thinking, and how to write our first essay writing which is a reflective report from our first clinical placement to address professional relationships and communication.

we talked about how we should always talk about our role as a Nursing Associate  and the definition of a Nursing Assistance when we write our learning outcome in our essays .  We went on to  discussed  about referencing a bit and we were made to understand we will have a session for it in the coming week.

Further more we talked about how to write our individual theory and practical hour log sheet  and what can be recorded in the log. We were told where to record our mandatory training times,as well as times spent in hand over can be recorded in our theory learning log and this must be approved  and signed by our Managers .

We went on to visit the Library , we met the library staff who talked us through how to have access to books and journals, as well as how to loan books and when it should be returned . We were also told we also have access to the printers to print our work and that eat student get credits loaded on their Croydon College  ID cards  and if this is exhausted we can top up at the Library for as low as a pound.

At the end of the days section , we again went through modules done Monday  to Wednesday and also was told about Uniform ordering on Friday and a brief about going into one of the simulation rooms .

Learning log 18/09/24

Title: Introduction to cells , system and homeostasis.

In the morning section we learnt  about cells, system and homeostasis and the several cavities of the human body which contain the organs  known as the dorsal cranial and vertebral and ventral which is the thoracic, abdominal, pelvic.

We also discussed  about Homeostasis , which is the balancing of all the system in our body to be able  to function well as survive.

We went further to discuss the abdomen which can be divided into 4 sections ,consisting of the right upper ,right lower, left upper and the lift lower region, further more we learnt about the level of organism in the human body which are the , Chemical level ( Electrolytes) this is very important for the body to function well as they conduct electricity which helps the muscle and nerve to function well. It also helps to resist pH changes in the body and also  help to keep body fluid where they are to be.

we went on to learn about cell membrane and transport, in which we went on to discussed passive transport ( no energy)  under which we have Osmosis and diffusion .  We had an example to to describe what diffusion is and this was compare with a dry lettuce put into a bowl of water that helps it bounce back to life.

We also went on to discussed about tissues in the human body and under this topic we talked about the various times of tissues in the human body

1.Epithelial or epithelium – found covering the body and lining hollow organs and tubes. It protects underlying structures from drying out, can excrete e.g. mucus membranes or can absorb.

2.Connective – found in all organs; functions are binding (e.g. ligaments binding bones), support, protection, transport and insulation. Blood is a fluid connective tissue which are large numbers of cells , classified by size , function and shape.

we also discuss about the 4 main types of tissues which are Nervous tissue ,  Muscle tissue, Connective tissue and the Epithelial tissue.

WE spoke about the organ which is part of the body that consist of different tissues .

We also discussed the 5 essential for human to survive , which is water, normal body temperature, nutrients, oxygen and normal pressure

LEARNING STYLE

In the morning   section we discussed about learning style which we went about to discuss reflective learning. Under this topic we learnt about concept of reflection and gained more insight into the models of reflective thinking and how to apply it in our job role as a Nursing Associate.

we learnt how to be confident in our job role as a Nursing Associate , be able to speak up when we make mistakes  and be able to undertake reflection to do our job in a professional way and learn from our mistakes

Moving forward I will be able to reflect on the standard in which i deliver care  , learn from my mistakes in my line of duty as a Nursing Associate, and work to deliver my job to standard set out for Nursing Associates by the NMC

 

GROUP WORK

In the afternoon  section today we worked in groups to discuss the role of a Nursing Associate within our scope, accountability, code of conduct and duty of care.

My group put together a power point slide to discuss the topic and this was presented to the whole class by the 5 members in my Group.

We went on to talk about NMC code of conduct for Nursing Associates, dress code and how to write our leaning log in our e portfolio account .

We also learnt about referencing , when and how to add references and the use of abstract and how we need to always write our conclusion while writing our essays .

Going forward I have learnt more about my job role as a Nursing Associate , I have also familiarise myself more to the NMC code of conduct and what is expected to me as a Nursing Associate to achieve my goal

Topic : Preparation of study week

PREPARATION OF STUDY WEEK.

In class today we discussed about our new role as a Nursing Associate and what is expected of us to reach our goals , we also got out University log in  details and created our Roehampton student account , we also went further to  learn how to use the Module  and e-portfolio on the school sites and also completed our ID card forms to enable us get our student ID card .

In the afternoon section we learnt how to do our daily learning logs of what we learnt each time we attend University . We also discussed about Adult learning and time management and introduction to Reflective learning. we also discussed our first assignment and when it is due and also discussed time management on how to start planing ahead of time. Balancing work , studies and life style was key and time management plays a big role to achieve our goals in our aim to achieve our goal as a Nursing Associate in our first year .

Further more  we discussed about the programme hours required by the NMC to be registered as  a Nursing Associate . This includes 1150 hours of theory and 1150 hours of practical and we also had a look at the programme structure of the Nursing Associate course.

We also discussed the modules  for this year which is Understanding Health and Illness Across the Life span and how the  assessment  will be in the form of multiple questions .

As this is my first day in University , it feels a bit overwhelming at the moment but I believe I will settle down as the week ahead unfolds .
