WEEK ONE – PREPARATION DAY 1

DAY 1 of TNA-          5th September, 2022.  7.5hrs.

Today,  been the First day of our Nursing Associates (NA) induction/ study day,  I woke up very very early, excited to start the course. I arrived at the college very early, I went to the reception and ask for  Mr Colin Rowe, one of the security said I am too early, and said Colin has not yet arrived, but will let him know when he comes, he offered me a seat  even the securities took notice and said you are too early, I just told them, I lived very far I don’t want to be late as today been the first day.

The day was quite informative, interesting meeting with new people ( colleagues) introducing each other.  Having listening to some people about their years of experience.  I asked  myself, can I do this? I started this few years ago, how can I cope? I haven’t got  long experience.

I said to myself, if others who have no experience can do this, who am I not to cope?  I made up my mind to go through the course whatever the case may be, I shall make it.

Having establishing the ground rules, I feel somehow relaxed and welcome.

We further on went and looked at Reflective practice, that it is to think, achieve better knowledge and understand the practice from experience, to improve care we provide.

We also looked models of reflections:

1:  Driscoll (2007) Described this type as WHAT?, SO WHAT?, and NOW WHAT? and why is it important.

The WHAT? : This talks about the description of the event or action.

The SO WHAT? :Explains why that action or event was significant. and

The NOW WHAT? : Explains how you will use that information to improve future practice.

2: Kolb 1984 ( The Reflective cycle.

Concrete Experience – Talks about having or doing an experience.

Reflective Observation –  Reviewing or reflecting on the experiences.

Abstract Conceptualisation – Concluding or learning from experience.

Action Experiment – Planning  or trying out what you have learned.

3: Gibbs :

Description – What happened?

Feeling  – what were you thinking and feeling.

Evaluation – what was good and bad about the experience.

Analysis – what else can you make out of the situation.

Conclusion – What else could you have done.

Action plan – If it happen/ rose again,  what would you do?
