12 Principles of Multimedia Learning
This weeks reading was of Mayers 12 principals of multimedia. It decibels what it will take to make a successful multi-media element. Such as one advice was words and pictures is better than words alone. They even look at what does not work to engage people learning such as speaking images on the presentation. These principles incorporate the cognitive loud theory, what Mayer could have been trying to argue is that we have limited capacity in our working memory so it is important that the information we set do not overpower our mind and create confusion such as Image Principle 10. Personalization Principle – People learn better from multimedia lessons when words are in conversational style rather than formal style (P:1). This is also one of the things he encouraged however when teachers and lectures use PowerPoint to teach it can be repeated from time to time so what should be considered when teachers have to teach is to personalise their work (Bartsch & Cobern 2003). Reading off the slides that not stimulate the brain however just make it slower to process at we already see it on scream yet it is being read again out loud. Mayer’s principles should really be taken into consideration when presenting a multimedia platform as it can really help the learners to grasp all elements of the tools presented.
