The use of technology in my BSE1 school was surprising. Each child had their own ipad and the head was very keen for teachers to make use of this in each lesson planned. Most of the time this consisted of the children accessing a loaded document on google classrooms or doing a bit of research on the internet. The school having gone to great expense to provide this technology to each child had laid no investment into considering how to use it effectively. Was this really money well spent?
In each class I was observing invariably the teacher would use the IWB purely to display a PPT. The I in IWB may as well have been taken away!
Its kind of ironic that we are told we should limit children’s time in front of a screen but at my BSE1 school staring at a screen was what they did ALOT of the time. This was a shame as the pupils had a lot to offer and the school was technology rich just not savvy enough to make it really work for them.
BSE2 – I hope you have something better to show me!
