Title: Endocrine System

What?

Learning about the endocrine system

So what?

Learning about how the endocrine system helps with supply hormones for the body and how it is being gradually circulated throughout the body to help with homeostasis and finding a balance to avoid any  minor deviation that can cause major probelsm to the bodies balance. lEarning about the different glands and how they are applicable to both male and female and how the hormones can affect them.

Now what?

Learning about the different pathologies in relation to the endocrine system has created an in-depth appreciation to the endorine system and how it can help support to the homeostasis of the body. But also, this has helped me understand my learning as a Nursing Associate on how to actively support patients with brain injury that have endocrine problems.

Title: Clinical Skills: NewS2 and manual blood pressure

What?

Learning about how to do use NewS2 and how to do a manual blood pressure reading

So what?

Learning of how to use the standardised monitoring of patients vital signs isn essential as this helps know if there are any change to their physicality and presentation. This can help Nursing Associates immediately escalate to memebers of the nursing team to provide extra support for the patient. Learning also how to operate and proeprly do a manual blood pressure reading helps with being prepared for placements that dont have electronic blood pressure readers

Now what?

I have learned from this session is that knowing how to read NEWS2 and how this can help categorise patients who are in critical conditions and should be immeidately supported. Not only that, this helps increase the awareness to provide aid in situations when a patient is medically unwell.

Title: Special Senses system

What?

Learning about the different sensory systems on a self directed study

So what?

I have learned about the different parts of the ears and how that the earwax helps not only prevent the growth of bacteria but is also has a protective function of the ears. I learned as well about the eyes  and how, the senses of the eyes are important to make note with individuals who are unable to properly verbalise and use eye contact as their main approach of non verbal communication.

Now what?

By learning about the special senses this has helped me with understanding what are the things I can do to support my patients and how I can actively support my patients through the support of the speech language therapist.

Topic: Renal System

What?

Learning about the renal system and what it does

So what?

The infomration about the renal system has helped broaden my understanding of how some parts of the cardiovascular system is invovlved i.e Inferior and Superior Venae Cava and how they are connected with the kidneys on the nephrons

Now what?

What I have learned with the renal system is how the pathologies are being explained and how relevant they are to the patients I am looking after i.e brain injury patients with kidney dysfunctions. The session has given some clarity on how to support my patients but also there are some key points I should look into to develop my understanding.

Title: Multidisciplinary Experiences

Sharing information about multidisciplinary experiences in class

So what?

Multidisciplinary experiences has given an  insight into the different health care professionals involved in a patients care.

Now what?

Learning from the variety of experiences of the multidisciplinary team, which holds different healthcare professionals. The support and care they provide will vary drastically depending on the autonomy of the patients they are looking after. This can be patients in Oncology, Mental health and people in a general care practice.

Title: Ethical and Legal aspects of Nursing

What?

Learning about the ethical and legal aspects of Nursing

So what?

This has created a generalised understanding of how to support patients when they are in need of support and being able to see the legal aspects of nursing and the policies that help implement the welfare of the patient and respect their decisions.

Now what?

What I have learned in this sessions as a Training Nursing Associate this has helped me build up my knowledge on the legality and ethical factors that are implemented when patients are making life changing decisions. This can be used to help support patients who are under Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and how, these individauls have advocates who can support them by law to have an understanding on any medical decision the patient makes.

Title: Clinical Skills Module- Basic Life Support

What?

Learning about the importance of providing good chest compressions and being able to support adult and paediatric patients/clients

So what?

Learning about the time duration of 25 seconds and while foollowing the DRSABC to provide basic life support to a patient/individual and helping them increase their chances of preserving life. It is vital to know of the risks of not being able to provide adequate chest compressions as this increases the chances of lack of oxygen that is going to the brain. This will cause a hypoxic brain injury to the individual and will create a huge risk to the persons quality of life.

Within the session. I learned about the importance of knowing when to apply 30:2 (adult compressions) to a child unless they have signs of puberty. Male(facial hair) Women (breast growth). For children chest compressions are 15:2 for 1 minute and doing 5 rescue breathes and call for the resus unit.

Now what?

After the skills session, this has developed my understanding on how to support both adult and paediatric patients when providing medical support in the event of them being unresponsive.

Title: Anatomy and Physiology of the Nervous System

What?

Learning about the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system

So What?

Acknowledging the different aspects of the nervous system and its different parts and how the different pathologies that are relevant is related to the different parts of the nervous system being affected

Now what?

This has given me an understanding, as a Nursing Associate to develop my understanding on different patients who are being affected by neurological injuries and this has helped me with gaining knowledge on hoow to work around and support them.

Title: Developing Professional relationships in Nursing

What?

Learning about developing professional realtionships within nursing and how communication is applied

So what?

The lecture gave an insight into various journals and references that highlight the importance of communication when engaging with patients and how there are different semantics such as verbal and non verbal communication.

Now what?

Through this lecture, I have learned the importance of communication and how this is important in learning about seeing the client as a whole and knowing their preferences and respecting them. This helps with building rapport with the patient and helps build trust.

Title: Cardiovascular System and Bloods

What?

Learning about the cardiovascular system and the blood

So what?

Learning about the different parts and fuctions of the cardiovascular system and how the blood works alongside the body system. Learning about the different pathologies of the heart.

Now what?

Learning about the cardivascular system and the blood has helped create a further understamding of how I am able t support my patients as a Nursing Associate and what are the symptoms that the patient is presenting when they are feeling unwell.

Title: Moving and Handling & P.P.E

 

What?

Learning of the importance of appropriate manual handling skills and the importance of using P.P.E in the clinical setting

So what?

The importance of being up to date on ones Manual Handling skills can help with being able to appropriate support the patient and following the different polcies and legislations such as LOLER when using manual handling equipment and appropriately using them to help with a patients mobility. The importance of using Personal protective equipment is necessary as this can help reduce the chances of reducing the transmission of bacteria which helps highlight infection control and aeseptic techniques are important when dealing with patients.

Now what?

By applying Manual Handling skills and P.P.E equipment as a Nursing Associate, this can help implement the necessary clinical skills and has developed their importanc during the transional process from the responsibilites of a Healthcare Assistant to a Nursing Associate.

Being introduced on how to approach and make an academic piece of work

So what?

Being given the awareness of how to formulate and structure effectively a piece of academic work.

Now what?

By being able to follow on the basic syntax and lexis needed in making a piece of academic work. It can help with appropriately structuring and create an awareness when proofreading my work.

Learning the structure of the respiratory system.

So what?

Hssving learned and revisited on ssome prior knowledge of the respiratory system and being made aware of respiratory pathologies that can be linked in order for me to further my understanding.

Now what?

There are some parts of the respiratory system that I am knowledgable of but also therea re some aspects that were in-depth. I will look into them and make note of some parts of the topic I am not confident in.
