Title of learning activity: Placement Orientation, Oesophagus, and
A to E Assessment.
Diary of Learning activity :
(itemise learning activity and reflect on the main points of learning from each. You should identify for each entry the relevant KSB)
Reflection on Learning Activity (include model of reflection e.g. Driscoll or Gibbs):
WHAT : The oesophagus is a muscular tube that acts as a pathway for food and fluids .
It is part of the digestive system and is known as a food pipe or gullet.
When you swallow , the oesophagus walls contract to move food down to the stomach.
A and E Assessment ,A pulse oximeter is a medical tool that measures blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) and heart rate.
there are different types of monitors,
finger tip, handheld , benchtop , multimodal small portable devices.,
SO WHAT: The oesophagus runs from the throat down through the chest , behind the windpipe and in front of the spine.
A and E assessment SpO2 oxygen saturation reading indicates the percentage of hemoglobin in the red
red blood cells that are carrying oxygen.
NOW WHAT : I have gained understanding , the oesophagus it propels swallowed food and liquids into the stomach through a process called peristalsis , which involves rhythmic muscular contraction .
The oesophagus has four layers in the inner lining of submucosa with glands that produce mucus , a muscularis the muscle layer that pushes food down .
and the outer layer is called the adventitia .
Sphincters : the oesophagus has two important sphincters the upper esophageal sphincters at the bottom which control the flow of food into and out of the oesophagus ,
conditions , problems with the oesophagus include acid reflux. esophagitis inflammation
.
A pulse oximeter monitoring oxygen saturation is crucial for identifying potential problems
with breathing or oxygen delivery , especially with lung or heart condition.
KSBs addresse
35: Accurately undertake risk assessments, using contemporary assessment tools
S41: Monitor and review the quality of care delivered, providing challenge and constructive feedback when an aspect of care has been delegated to others
S44: Access, input, and apply information and data using a range of methods including digital technologies, and share appropriately within interdisciplinary teams
