Title of learning activity: Second Year
Diary of Learning activity
Today’s class was the first of the second year. We started at 9:30 am and we met our new cohort convenor Joicy George. She introduced herself and made everyone at ease. Joicy comes from a cardiology background, and she has several years of experience on teaching. During the morning session she introduced to us the new modules she will be taking over: Understanding complex care needs and Decision making for nursing associates. She thoroughly explained the assessments to be completed for the modules and explained how the assignment and the exam are going to work. During the morning session we had a visitor lecturer from the staff support, that came to talk about writing at level 5. He stressed the importance of reading to build up vocabulary to produce an excellent academic writing. He explained that it is important to support your concepts with correctly referenced evidence. He also stressed the importance of developing a critical voice and how to achieve this. I thought it was a very helpful lecture and gave us a better understanding on how to structure our next academic work. After Lunch, Joicy introduced the decision-making module and the exam to be completed at the end of the module. She thoroughly explained the different nursing tools to be used in practice and stressed the importance of evidence based. Overall, it has been a great day of learning and a good introduction to the new modules.
