Title of learning activity: Decision Making for nursing associate
Diary of Learning activity
Today’s session was runt by Joicy. It is very nice to spend time with her, this is because I consider her a very skilful nurse and I really enjoy her teaching methods. Today’s class in terms of topic was easier than the day before. The topics of the day were still about complex care and decision making. Joicy started going through the exam that we will be having at the end of the module, She went through it again because some of the colleagues had not clear the learning outcomes and the dynamic of the exam. After that we discussed about Human factors in care, and how they can impact the life and the decision making of healthcare workers. We also discussed the importance of decision making and how this is relevant to the nursing associate role. Moving on in the class we discussed about Sickle cell disease and the genomic of this disease thoroughly discussed diagnosis , treatment and how individuals live with this disease. At the end of this presentation, we were asked to splint in 2 groups and work on a case study to expose to the rest of the class. The exercise was very helpful because gave us already an idea on how the exam will be structured. Moving on in the class another topic we discussed was Sepsis. Even in this case we discussed the long and short term management of sepsis, treatment , causes and definitions. I thought overall the lecture was very formative especially because I was never exposed before and never known about sickle cells. It was very good to understand their pathophysiology , how to treat them and how people survive with this particular disease. In the afternoon we discussed about sepsis, it is something I am very used to deal with in clinical practice, however was very good to have a refreshment and to understand=d the origins the pathophysiology and the treatment and ways to prevent and look after patients with sepsis. Overall was another great day at University and I feel more confident to approach the new assignments for the new modules.
