Traditional or Non Traditional forms of PE

On this page I would like you hear your discussion around traditional and non traditional forms of PE. Do you think the current national curriculum is progressive? Does it meet students needs and requirements?

Traditional forms of PE include Games, Dance, Gymnastics, OAA, Athletics and Swimming. What do they look like? How is learning developed across the different domains?

Games: breaks down into 3 classifications – Net and Wall, Invasion and Striking and Fielding.

Psychomotor domain – development of physical skills (FMS) and applied through different concepts.

Cognitive domain – problem solving, strategies and tactics of games, evaluating performance.

Affective – social skills (communication, cooperation and collaboration), celebrating successes and identifying points for development, building confidence and values.

Dance: Imp to have opp to compose, perform and app. Actions and Dynamics which are like skills and concepts. Space includes formation, the area the skills are performed in… Beats of 8 – children need to learn move to a count of 8.
