Direct activities with the children

As i observe staff members I can see that they plan for the children. They would observe the child, then track their development to see what stages they are at using the EYFS handbook. They then right down the areas children may need to work on the daily or weekly planning  then set out activities for the children to undertake. I am intrigued to know how they promote free plan when planning for children and leading them to the activity they want them to do.

Ratio within the rooms

It was interesting to see that staff members that has a DBS check but no qualifications left with the children. Whereas in other rooms staff who is qualified and no DBS check was left alone with the children in the room. It contradicts whether staff members with no DBS or qualifications can be left alone with the children in the room.

Update

My progress in the toddler and Preschool room has been well. I have gotten to know the children in the rooms. It is interesting to watch how they interact with one another. I listen and observe the way they talk to one another. They imitate everyday actions quite frequently and they also look for comfort from adults and each other. The rooms that i am overseeing has gone through a transition of staff changing. Currently i am getting use to the staff members in the rooms.

My Feelings About My Placement

When i decided to undergo my placement at the Nursery I currently work at I felt happy, comfortable and at ease. As I started understanding this module I realised that our tutors wants us to come out of out comfort zone and they want us to explore and experience a different environment. So I chose to do my placement in another room. I am currently a baby unit manager, so i chose to do my reflective journal in a toddler and pre-school room which is very different to what I am used to.
