During this rehearsals we decided to pair up and create a short sequence consisting of movement or dialogue that represents any character in the play ‘Ghosts’. As a pair we had worked on the two character Oswald and Mrs Alving, we had tried to work on the mother and son relationship between the two characters. As Oswald I had used the line “there is something I must tell you” and consistently repeated the line throughout the scene. Whilst my partner would repeat the line “Tell me Everything from start to finish”. While repeating the line we had used proxemics and movement between the two characters. We had done this by standing on either side of the room and slowly taking one step closer together as we repeated our lines. This allowed us to understand what spacing can do and show when trying to portray relationships. We had eventually sat together on the floor and repeated the line but added a push and pull sequence between the two characters in order to show the struggle between the two. The change in levels allowed us to show the Mrs Alving wants to put Oswald on the status as herself when trying to comfort Oswald.
To end this devised piece both me and my partner stood up and said the line “Tell me everything from start to finish”. We chosen this line as it shows that Mrs Alving is more dominant and has comforted her son Oswald. We specifically said it together as it shows that the character Oswald is opening up and decided tell his Mother about his personal problems. While standing up we also held hands to contrast from the start of the performance when we are not holding hands but instead distancing ourselves from each other as the characters. Therefore holding each others hands connotes the level of trust between Oswald and Mrs Alving
