Data Handling

In today’s session we looked at creating surveys based around experiences of computing on BSE1. It was interesting to see how much data is transferred online in just a mintue! It was good to see how surveys are created on google forms and see what other peoples experiences of computing in their placement schools were and compare data. I think this would be very useful when teaching children a data handling topic.

This session was very useful to see how data is used and how to create forms for our own use.

IWB’s

Today’s session was all about the impact interactive whiteboards make on the children’s learning. We were able to experiment on the IWB’s which was interesting as we were able to experiment with the different tools before going into the classroom. We had to create an activity which could be used in the classroom. Our’s was a Maths activity based around odd and even numbers that could be used in KS1. The children love doing activities that involve the IWB as it is interactive and fun! I am looking forward to see the different ways they can be used on BSE1.

Online Safety

Today’s session was all about online safety and how to keep children safe online. At the beginning of the lesson I didn’t agree with children blogging as the dangers of the internet are quite high. The main dangers being the 3 C’s Content, Conduct and Conduct and that everything you put on the internet remains there forming your digital footprint. Over the course of the lesson I quickly changed my views on children blogging as it gives them the opportunity to express themselves and having seen examples of this in our computing class it proved it can be done in a safe way. Although advances in technology has its risks it is our job as teachers alongside parents to ensure children are safe online.
