Call for teachers: Research and CPD opportunity
Please see our leaflet here: gepic leaflet Feb 2023
Professor Bryony Hoskins (Roehampton University) has opened a call for year 9 teachers to participate in the international G-EPIC (Gender Empowerment through Politics in Classrooms) research project.
This is a great opportunity for teachers to:
- Learn about and co-create cutting edge education tools
- Apply them in the classroom
- Create international professional networks
- Pursue Continuing Professional Development
About G-EPIC:
Gender Empowerment through Politics in Classrooms (G-EPIC) research project develops and tests methods that support disadvantaged girls to gain confidence in their voices and engage in politics. The 3-year international research project takes place in 6 EU countries (Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Spain, UK). The UK team is funded by the UK Research and Innovation Council (UKRI).
Benefits of participation:
Teachers will gain Continuing Professional Development Certificates from both the international lead (Vrije University Brussels, Belgium) and Roehampton University (UK). Teachers will develop their skills, work and learn from teachers and researchers in other countries, and co-develop Gender Empowerment methods for the classroom.
We are recruiting schools/teachers that:
- Teach citizenship or citizenship-related topics in year 9 (pupils 13-14 years)
- Are open to new ideas, including those coming from research
- Engage in participatory, inclusive teaching practice
- Are committed to students’ voice and their political engagement
- Are passionate about achieving gender equality
Target Schools:
- Ideally 25% or more students receiving free school meals
- Ideally 25% or more students who speak English as an Additional Language
- Based in or around London
- We will consider all applications regardless of whether they meet the above criteria.
Selection criteria for teachers: Priority will be given to year 9 citizenship teachers or to those who teach citizenship-related topics in their classes and who work in target group schools. We welcome all applicants and can discuss wider participation for teachers who might not match the criteria.
What are you going to be involved in doing: Co-construction of methods for inclusive teaching and implementing these methods in your classroom teaching.
When the project starts: March – April 2023
Duration of G-EPIC project: The project will run for 3 years (2023-2026) during which you will be invited to participate in different phases of the project.
Reimbursements: While we cannot offer individual incentives for participation, we will cover the costs for schools for teacher replacements and any travel to participate in the project. These arrangements will be made with your headteacher to avoid excluding any schools who wish to participate.
Should you wish to participate in this research project, please fill out this form.
