Upload first revised version of your Curriculum Vitae alongside this reflection and outline what changes have been made + why

My curriculum Vitae (CV) was dated and poorly structured. When I revisited my CV I corrected and updated it to my current status including recent employment, new skills using a different arrangement. My module has offered a session to inform us about what employees are looking for on a CV. This entailed, how to structure and what information is necessary.

Transformation from my dated CV to my current, demonstrates the importance of updating the structure and information on your CV. As a result of the improvements I have confidence within myself in being accepted for the job roles I seek out. I have received frequent telephone calls from the majority of jobs I applied to.https://eportfolios.roehampton.ac.uk/veerasaa/files/2020/04/cv1-alia.png

Reflection on marketing yourself and elevator pitch sessions/tasks

Presenting my elevated pitch was a task I did not enjoy, I felt nervous; the fear of public speaking resulted in breathlessness when talking and dries mouth. However, I was able to overcome the fear eventually. When I accepted that it was ok to be nervous I began to pace myself and interact with the audience.

My previous experiences in presenting I was not able to overcome my fear of speaking in front of large audiences, I was incapable of acknowledging how poor I was performing.

Prior to my jobs, I did not have the opportunity to receive feedback on my interaction with the customers other than providing good customers service. The experience I gained gave me confidence when speaking in front of a crowd and to pace myself when talking.

My presentation was the most engaging task I had to complete; I was clear with my verbal communication and timing slides correctly along with it. I also felt that presenting to a large crowd boosted my stage presence. Practicing in front of family members gave an open dialog of feedback, which was great for preparation. As a whole I cannot fault my experience.

Award Reflection on the Chancellor’s Career Award

The insight I gained from the Chancellor’s Career Award, knew what skills constitutes my strength and weakness. Furthermore, the questionnaire presented the opportunity for me to acknowledge what area I must work on and how to improve; The questionnaire displayed a list of what defines my skills; I am a team player, I adapt in challenging work environments, decision-making and networking. I can focus on these as my main strengths and use them to my advantage.

The task “You and your career” was informative as well as engaging. The assessment “you and your career” gave me more of an idea of who I am as a person and what I should be doing to enhance my chances of being a long-term employee.  I completed three tasks and each task gave me a clear visual on how to identify my strong suit and weak points. Considering preference my values and motivation and creating a career action plan from the graph above and below), indicates my strong points and weak points. The assignments I completed from “considering my values and motivation” were, stress management and emotional.

I scored 76 on the stress management assessment, which indicated that I manage stress well whilst working under pressure. I have seen this when dealing with people emotions, finances and deadlines. But, because of my score I know that there is room for improvement. In order to grow as an employee I believe it is of upmost importance to tackle my downfalls one step at a time, I realise that each work place can be different; offering a wide range of responsibilities and tasks and I would be doing myself an injustice if I did not try to remedy my handling of stress within my workplace or even in my day-to-day life.

I realised that there will always be a life situation that may demand more then what we can cope with in a short time period. I can improve this by coming up with techniques that calm me down such as… being aware of my triggers so that I can prevent possible flare ups that don’t allow me to be as productive as I can how to recognise my emotions to avoid unhelpful ones when there is a challenge at hand.

The least informative task from the counsellor award assessment was “Explore your options” The reason for that was simply because the lack of information. The task gave a few pointers on how to network, job search and Plan short and long term goals.

The assessment did not mention key points on how to progress throughout each career path, which leads me to question what the point was. I would have found this particular assessment beneficial if I were given some sort of inspiration. The assessment“explore your options” offered tips on how to research, how to network and how to get involved in work placement events. It was interesting because I did not know how to look for career fairs.https://eportfolios.roehampton.ac.uk/veerasaa/files/2020/04/SW2.png https://eportfolios.roehampton.ac.uk/veerasaa/files/2020/04/SW1.png

StrengthsWeakness

career pulse assessment

When approaching an interview I find that being prepared has always benefited me, I chose to research all that I know of the role that I am applying for and also the company that may potentially hire me. Preparation also gives me a shield of confidence, pushing myself mentally through the nerves that may occur. I situate myself in environments where it is key for me to understand body language, I use this to my advantage whilst going through extensive interviewing processes by showing positivity and enthusiasm with my gestures and all round body communication. I scored 90% on Interviewing as my strength on the Overall Career Pulse Assessment. This assessment informed me of my strengths and weaknesses within my working life and how I could improve these skills to make a well-rounded possible employee. I would note that my weakness is self-awareness which I lack periodically between jobs and when applying for jobs, I can get lost in the stress and structure of things which can lead me to become anxious about future career prospects Career pulse assessment.docx screen shot

2020 five year plan/Post placement

It has taken a while to come to a conclusion about where I would like to be in my future. I have thought of many ways to become successful in my own right, trying to focus on the things that make me feel fulfilled. During this process I have also made some choices that have not benefited me, which has been a learning experience and has steered me in the direction that I want to be in. With much thought I believe that Physiotherapy is the path that I want to take career wise. I have chosen Physiotherapy because of the diverse clientele, being a part of someone’s recovery and the rewards of the hard work put into each patient. With the skills that I have gained in work experience over the years, I feel that this could be a favourable career option. As a former fitness instructor and carer, not only do I feel that this role would be exciting but will also be educational. I have learned how to be attentive to a client’s needs, a good communicator as well as adapting to a client’s emotional and physical needs; I am hoping to bring these experiences to physiotherapy in order to excel.

Five Year Plan

I am 23 years old. I am in my second year of university studying sports and exercise science. In 5 years I see myself working in a clinic, specializing in rehabilitation. Once I finish my Bsc, I will continue with my studies and aim for my masters whilst working in a local clinic for the experience I need to one day build my own dream business.

Feedback

After each week i would ask each individual on how do they feel about the work out and how hard are they finding it. I also gave them my feedback on how i felt about it and how easy it started to become and how well we all were adapting. The first week was so intense (cardio day) i did not think i would return back. It was only the warm up and i was so tired and exhausted that i did nothing i can go on for an hour. The first week was hell for each of us and we took so many breaks in between due to the intensity of the class workout.

C28

C28 is a class that goes on for 28 days. The trainer sent programmes and meal preps out to each individuals  to notify them what is happening for each day and how to eat to get the results they need. the class was carried out 3 days a week and the days that we did not attend, we were suppose to do a home work out that was set from the trainer. we were all part of a group chat where he would send videos of the exercise that should be included in out home work out routine and also send photos of the food we made to keep everyone motived to eat right and be on time for each class.

1st day of my work experience

my first day working alongside a personal trainer was a nervous and exiting feeling because I never taught a class before and was not as confident as i though i would be due to studying sports for 5 years and having access to gyms for experiences. My personal trainer was very motivating as i took part in all exercises and sessions.
