The insight I gained from the Chancellor’s Career Award, knew what skills constitutes my strength and weakness. Furthermore, the questionnaire presented the opportunity for me to acknowledge what area I must work on and how to improve; The questionnaire displayed a list of what defines my skills; I am a team player, I adapt in challenging work environments, decision-making and networking. I can focus on these as my main strengths and use them to my advantage.
The task “You and your career” was informative as well as engaging. The assessment “you and your career” gave me more of an idea of who I am as a person and what I should be doing to enhance my chances of being a long-term employee. I completed three tasks and each task gave me a clear visual on how to identify my strong suit and weak points. Considering preference my values and motivation and creating a career action plan from the graph above and below), indicates my strong points and weak points. The assignments I completed from “considering my values and motivation” were, stress management and emotional.
I scored 76 on the stress management assessment, which indicated that I manage stress well whilst working under pressure. I have seen this when dealing with people emotions, finances and deadlines. But, because of my score I know that there is room for improvement. In order to grow as an employee I believe it is of upmost importance to tackle my downfalls one step at a time, I realise that each work place can be different; offering a wide range of responsibilities and tasks and I would be doing myself an injustice if I did not try to remedy my handling of stress within my workplace or even in my day-to-day life.
I realised that there will always be a life situation that may demand more then what we can cope with in a short time period. I can improve this by coming up with techniques that calm me down such as… being aware of my triggers so that I can prevent possible flare ups that don’t allow me to be as productive as I can how to recognise my emotions to avoid unhelpful ones when there is a challenge at hand.
The least informative task from the counsellor award assessment was “Explore your options” The reason for that was simply because the lack of information. The task gave a few pointers on how to network, job search and Plan short and long term goals.
The assessment did not mention key points on how to progress throughout each career path, which leads me to question what the point was. I would have found this particular assessment beneficial if I were given some sort of inspiration. The assessment“explore your options” offered tips on how to research, how to network and how to get involved in work placement events. It was interesting because I did not know how to look for career fairs.https://eportfolios.roehampton.ac.uk/veerasaa/files/2020/04/SW2.png https://eportfolios.roehampton.ac.uk/veerasaa/files/2020/04/SW1.png
