TS3 Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge

My passion for Physical Education stems from the fantastic opportunities the subject has given me in my life. I would now like to give something back by making this subject as engaging and rewarding for students as I have found it.

With obesity levels in the UK at an all-time high the importance of students staying active and understanding the benefits of PE have never been more important. Along with this PE brings opportunities for students to develop physically, mentally and socially as well as teaching them key transferable life skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership. Giving students a further chance to fulfil their sporting potential through extra-curricular activities is another positive benefit that I love PE can bring. Finally by inspiring students to enrol onto GCSE, BTEC and A Level PE courses, this gives them a pathway to complete a number of different higher education courses which can lead to successful careers within the sport or education industry.

I will continue to develop my subject knowledge as this has been identified as an area for development for my NQT year. This will be done by continuing to research the different sports that I will be teaching, continuing to respond effectively to advice and feedback from colleagues, but most importantly by completing more observations on colleagues as I feel this has been the most effective way of improving my subject knowledge during my training year.

I will also continue to research different teaching models to enhance my pedagogy. I have already completed research and produced an assignment into the benefits of the sport education model. I have also implemented this model during my training year where I was able to improve engagement with one of my more difficult classes during my first placement school. This was a model I was really impressed with and will certainly use again in my new school.
