Student reflection
- I shadowed and helped the OT during her shower assessment session with one of the patients to give her best way of giving personal care.
- I was able to participate well with OT and communicate well with patient as well.
- I made sure that patient’s dignity and privacy was maintained through out the assessment.
- I was able to see Carendo multipurpose Hygiene chair and the functions understood how it is different and useful.
- I have understood why that special kind of chair used.
- We assessed how comfortable and safe the patient is in the chair and her her ability to recognition.
- The patient we able to communicate via verbally which was very useful in the session, a very good patient participation was there during the session.
- Since the patient was comfortable even when the patient was wet within the chair and we were using the correct size of sling it will be advised for in the future as well.
Apart from that I got a chance for a discussion with OT. She mention about why they do the shower assessment and how it will be useful for the patient especially in giving personal care
She also mentioned about the other roles of OT and how effective it will before the patient overall development, for example, in cognitive thinking, optimisation, and disability management.
overall, I understood that the role of a OT is to make and help the patients to be independent as much as they could.
Practice Supervisor’s comments:
Anna asked very appropriate questions around the OT role in the vent service to further her learning. She communicated well with staff and to the patient. She interacted well with the patient throughout the shower session and assisted in maintaining dignity and safety of the patient. She was helpful in setting up and participated well in the shower assessment.
